As Mike Tomlin noted during his Tuesday press conference, Rodgers would not and did not practice Wednesday. He suffered a fracture in his non-throwing wrist late in the first half of Week 11’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Still, the Steelers have left the door open for him to play this weekend. Earlier in the day, Rodgers told reporters he hopes to practice Thursday to begin determining if he can safely and functionally play against the Bears.

If not, Mason Rudolph will make his first start of the season, 19th of his NFL career, and 14th of his Steelers’ tenure.

Warren didn’t play after tweaking his ankle in the second half of Sunday’s game. Tomlin confirmed doctors cleared him to return but opted to hold him out as RB Kenneth Gainwell led the way with two receiving touchdowns. Warren is likely to suit up this weekend, but the team will manage his reps throughout the week.

Slay is recovering from a Week 10 concussion and missed Sunday’s game against the Bengals. He practiced on a limited basis last Friday and is on track to play this Sunday once he officially clears and exits protocol. Mike Tomlin noted Slay and James Pierre would play, though he didn’t make it explicitly clear who would start. Pierre is having a career year while Slay has struggled.

Highsmith failed to practice all last week due to a pectoral injury and sat out the Bengals game. Tomlin noted Highsmith would begin the week limited but gave him a chance to play this weekend. If not, Nick Herbig will start with Jack Sawyer rotating in as the No. 3.

Holcomb is poised to return after missing three games with an unknown illness. He previously rotated in as a run down linebacker but with Malik Harrison healthy and assuming that role in his absence, it’s not clear if Holcomb is in-line for defensive snaps. At the least, he will play on special teams and add quality depth.

Seumalo has battled a pec injury for the last month but is likely to play this weekend.

Smith, Heyward, and Watt receive regular rest throughout the week and will suit up against the Bears.

CB Cory Trice Jr. was not listed on the report. His window closes today. Official word should come soon on if he’ll spend the rest of the season on injured reserve. The Trib’s Joe Rutter noted Trice did not practice today. He suffered a knee injury after being returning to practice from a summer hamstring injury.

The Steelers and Bears kickoff Sunday at 1 PM/EST.
