Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been rumored to be interested in a few NFL jobs for the past couple of weeks, especially because the Longhorns couldn’t live up to the hype they held during the preseason and are currently sitting on an overall record of 7-3 so far in the season, with playoff chances hanging by a thread.
On Tuesday, SI’s Pat Forde shared that he believes Sarkisian is at least looking at what’s out there in the league in terms of vacancies. He further added that the 2026 college football season is going to be a critical mass year for him, and if he doesn’t think Arch Manning is that good, now would be the time to get out.

On Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference, Sarkisian started by saying:
“I’d like to comment something before I get into our team that has been bothering me now over the past few weeks. That is people reporting that are insinuating that there’s a possibility I could leave the University of Texas, and that is absolutely false and untrue. I’m not going anywhere. Never do I do this because I never want to be a distraction, so I never address these things. At this point, I feel like this is important that I do this because it’s important for our team. It’s important for our university. I’ve had no discussions, not with my agent, not with the university, not with any other school, not with any NFL team about ever going anywhere else. I came here to win championships.”
He further mentioned that he has two kids enrolled at Texas, and the third is also considering enrolling in a program soon, while also saying that he just had a son born in Austin, making the place their home.
