Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley is facing disturbing allegations.

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard PatrickBeverley, who played a key role off the bench during the Sixers’ 2023–24 season, is challenging disturbing allegations related to his recent arrest in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge.

Beverley, 37, was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with family assault by impeding breath or circulation, a felony category that covers domestic strangulation allegations. If convicted, the charge could carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison under Texas law.

According to a police affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports, Beverley allegedly forcefully grabbed his sister by the neck, lifted her off the ground, slammed her against the walls and struck her in the eye. Officers said they observed neck marks and petechiae in the eyes, a condition typically linked to restricted oxygen or choking.

Beverley posted a $40,000 bail shortly after being booked. A court date has not yet been made public.

Lawyer: Affidavit Shows Only ‘One Side of the Story’

Beverley’s attorney, Houston-based Letitia Quinones-Hollins, says the affidavit is misleading and incomplete. In a statement sent to Heavy Sports, she challenged the accuracy of the document and urged the public not to rush to judgment.

“I understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story — given at a time when emotions were high.”

“We don’t believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete.”

Quinones-Hollins insisted that Beverley acted respectfully the night of the incident.

“Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night. In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities and encouraged others to do the same.”

The attorney characterized Beverley as a family provider concerned for his sister’s well-being.

“He is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mom. He has always looked out for their well-being and will continue to do so.”

Beverley’s No-Nonsense Edge

Beverley played 47 games for the 76ers during the 2023–24 season, averaging 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 32.1% from three. His short stint with the Sixers included a pair of big games — a career-high-tying 26 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in a 125–116 loss to the Boston Celtics and a season-high 11 assists and 17 points against the Denver Nuggets.

He was praised by coach Nick Nurse for his defensive intensity and leadership alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Beverley also hosted his popular podcast during the season, where he frequently spoke about Philadelphia’s fan culture and toughness — two traits he said “fit his personality.”

Before his arrest, Beverley came under fire nationally when Klay Thompson called him and Jason Williams out for crude remarks on a podcast about Thompson’s girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, prompting swift criticism across the NBA.

Legal Case Still Developing

Beverley’s attorney stressed that the case is far from resolved and cautioned Sixers fans — and the public at large — to wait for the full evidence to emerge.

“Patrick is innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law. When all the facts are in, I have every expectation he will be cleared of these charges.”

The felony case will continue through the Texas court system, with potential evidentiary hearings expected in the coming weeks.
