All Liverpool players in contention for a place on the plane next year for the 2026 World Cup

After another thrilling international break jam-packed with goals, cards, upsets and triumphs, 42 teams have earned their place at the 2026 World Cup.

Scotland are among those who have secured automatic qualification, following their fairytale victory over Denmark. Led by Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, the Scottish national team qualified for their first men’s World Cup since 1998.

Robertson joins a number of his Reds teammates who will be in contention to feature at the World Cup next year. The tournament is just seven months away from kicking off, and will be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States between June and July.

Every Liverpool player in contention for 2026 World Cup

After the final World Cup qualifications spots were awarded, here are the Liverpool players who will be pushing for their place on the plane next year.

Florian Wirtz (Germany) After bagging two assists against Slovakia, Wirtz helped Germany secure a 6-0 win to round off their qualifying campaign. The Germans finished top of Group A with 15 points.

Andy Robertson (Scotland) Captain Robertson mentioned Diogo Jota in his emotional post-match interview after clinching historic qualification with Scotland on Tuesday night.

Hugo Ekitike, Ibrahima Konate (France) France regulars Ekitike and Konate played their part in an unbeaten qualifying run for their national side as Les Bleus topped Group D without a loss on the board.

Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong (Netherlands) The Netherlands were also unbeaten as they finished top of Group G. Van Dijk, Gakpo and Gravenberch are all regulars for Oranje, while Frimpong will be hoping to fight for his place on the plane when he returns from injury.

Mohamed Salah (Egypt) As he approaches his 34th birthday, this could well be Salah’s last World Cup with Egypt as they head for the action in 2026.

Wataru Endo (Japan) Endo, who captains Japan, could also be looking at his last World Cup, especially with regular minutes for both club and country evading him lately.

Alisson (Brazil) Brazil’s usual first choice goalkeeper Alisson has been absent with an injury but will be eager to get back on the pitch and remain fit in the lead up to the 2026 World Cup.

Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) After lifting the trophy in 2022, Mac Allister and Argentina will be hopeful of defending their title in North America next year.

Countries in the play-offs are still in with a chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Those include Northern Ireland and Sweden, meaning Conor Bradley and Alexander Isak have another shot at reaching the finals.

Liverpool players who won’t be at 2026 World Cup

One of the biggest upsets of the World Cup qualifiers came when the Republic of Ireland snubbed Hungary of a place in the play-offs. The Hungarian heartbreak means Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez will miss out on competing on the world’s biggest stage next year.

Georgia and Greece have also been eliminated from the qualifiers, meaning Giorgi Mamardashvili and on-loan star Kostas Tsimikas won’t be on the plane to North America either.
