Knicks vs. Mavericks: The matchup
The Knicks are 8-1 at home this season, but still searching for their first road win with Wednesday’s contest in Dallas marking their sixth try this season. New York kicked off its current road swing Monday night in Miami with a 115-113 loss to the Heat. That loss came in the second of back-to-back contests against the Heat, the first of which came Friday in a 140-132 Knicks win. In both cases, New York played without star guard Jalen Brunson due to an ankle injury, but he is now listed as questionable for Wednesday night with a shot to return in Dallas.

The Mavs are struggling early in 2025-’26 as the franchise looks to rebuild its roster in the aftermath of last season’s Luka Doncic trade, a process that begins with rookie and No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg. Dallas is on a run of four losses in five games while trying to get its front court healthy, with Daniel Gafford, Derrick Lively II and Anthony Davis all missing time to injuries. All three missed a Monday loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves (120-96), as the Mavs shot just 40% from the floor and made just 19 of 31 free throw attempts in the lopsided defeat.
