On Wednesday, Chiefs starting left tackle Josh Simmons discussed how he is officially back with the team and stayed ready to play throughout the month-plus stretch he was away.
“I want to thank the entirety of Kansas City, and this club, for having my six during the time I was away from the team. It showed how much love this team and city has for me, and I can’t wait to give it back to them. … I was ready to play. Communication with the team was very transparent, especially at the end. I will be here for the rest of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs.”
While the personal issue that caused a four-week absence for Simmons was a giant question since he left the team hours before their game against the Detroit Lions, the rookie offensive tackle did not want to publicize the reasoning that he left Kansas City in the first place.
“I just want to keep it in-house, all due respect. That’s just something I want to keep inside.”
Simmons has been playing well as the team’s starting left tackle and returned on Sunday against the Denver Broncos for his first game action since Oct. 6. It will be intriguing to see how he does for the remainder of his rookie season as he will face some tough edge rushers in the second half of the schedule.
