Despite some highlight-reel plays from the backcourt of Maxey and Edgecombe, another third quarter hurt the Sixers.

Despite a valiant effort late, the Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Toronto Raptors 121- 112 on Wednesday night. They have not won two games in a row since they started the season on a four-game winning streak.

The Sixers were without the talents of Joel Embiid (right knee), Kelly Oubre Jr. (knee), Paul George (knee) and Adem Bona (ankle). The Toronto Raptors were only missing Collin Murray-Boyles with a knee injury.

This game was defined by turnovers. The Sixers gave the ball up 21 times, their highest mark on the season so far, leading to 31 points for the Raptors. Toronto’s defense would send occasional blitzes at Maxey and played aggressive, leaving the Sixers disorganized and scrambling at the end of the shot clock.

The turnovers and another poor third quarter created enough of a hole to withstand a Sixers run late in the fourth quarter. At one point in the frame, they were trailing by 16, and were still able to cut the lead down to four with a couple minutes remaining.

This team has a never-say-die attitude that leaves unfocused teams susceptible to a comeback, just like we saw occur on Monday against the Clippers.

The run did make Bell Ringer more difficult to chose, so those who performed during the run but not necessarily the entire game will receive an honorable mention.

**Tyrese Maxey: 24 points, 9 assists, 3 steals, 2 rebounds**

Maxey was cooking from the jump and remained steady throughout the game, once again leading an undermanned group to the very end. Every time the Sixers needed points, Maxey would either drive and convert a difficult layup or drill a tough three, and he was once again pivotal in the Sixers’ fourth-quarter run, this time as a playmaker.

The Sixers would struggle with Maxey on the bench in multiple stints tonight.

There were some moments of hero ball from Maxey, notably a long three with just under five minutes remaining while down three. Obviously its a make-or-miss league, and if it went in the game is tied, but the selection that early in the shot clock is questionable at least. He has to clean up on the turnovers as well.

**VJ Edgecombe: 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks**

The rookie was everywhere against the Raptors, but his presence was felt most on the defensive end. Not only was he able to come away with steals on multiple occasions, he was also consistently the sole defender in transition.

His vocal leadership is also evident, as he was telling Jabari Walker to switch onto Brandon Ingram on a play where Ingram got a wide open three. Also, a hilarious moment where he tells Andre Drummond to block a shot attempt he was defending under the rim. You can find the clip of the moment in the video below.

Edgecombe provided Maxey some assistance on offense, consistently driving and finishing tough opportunities in the paint and midrange. None prettier than this transition dunk during the fourth quarter run.

**Jabari Walker: 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 Offfensive Rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block**

Walker earns a hustle nomination as he was a monster on the boards against Toronto, and was very solid manning up against Scottie Barnes on defense. He would make his only three-point attempt of the night, and helped stabilize the Sixers after the awful third quarter.

**Quentin Grimes**: **21 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds**

Most of Grimes’ damage came in the fourth quarter, as he was the offensive fuel to the almost comeback.

**Andre Drummond: 10 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block**

Drummond struggled to defend against Poetl’s push shot through the first three, yet he turned it on in the final frame.
