The recent international break has drawn to a close, with Liverpool set to return to the pitch this weekend against Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Arne Slot's team were sent into the two-week hiatus on a low note after suffering a 3-0 defeat by Manchester City.

Before the stumble at Eastlands, Liverpool had secured consecutive victories against Aston Villa and Real Madrid. This winning streak had sparked optimism among fans that the Reds had bounced back from a disappointing spell, which saw the reigning champions lose four consecutive Premier League matches.

However, the loss to City has highlighted once more that Slot has a significant task ahead to steer his underperforming squad back on course, with Liverpool currently sitting eighth in the league table. The Reds embarked on an unprecedented spree of summer spending, smashing their transfer record twice: initially for Florian Wirtz and later for Alexander Isak.

While concerns have been raised over the latter's limited playing time so far, a senior figure from the Swedish national team has addressed Isak's recent absence. In other news, Liverpool have secured a deal that provides them with a significant boost.

No 'panic' over Isak

A member of Sweden's coaching team has sought to calm worries about Liverpool star Isak. The former Newcastle forward remained on the bench for Sweden during their 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

However, the player's absence was due to concerns over a potential suspension for the World Cup play-off tie in March. The forward had made his return on Saturday after nearly a month sidelined with a groin injury.

Isak came off the bench in the second half but couldn't prevent Graham Potter's team from suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Switzerland. It was anticipated that the Reds' striker would have a more significant role against Slovenia.

However, following Saturday's loss, Tuesday's match became inconsequential. Stefan Pettersson, who works alongside Sweden manager Potter, said: "We receive some supplementary letters from FIFA and UEFA about these things.

"I want to double-check what it might say in them. Before the next game, we will know with 100 per cent certainty what applies. There is no panic about it now. That could be the case (that Isak and some Sweden players were at risk of suspension). It certainly can (affect team selection)."

Potter added: "The situation with the yellow cards, injuries to players, it's not an ideal situation. You don't want players who go on the pitch and can't be aggressive. You're not yourself then."

Isak hasn't featured for the Reds since he limped off during half-time in the 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22. He remained on the bench during Liverpool's loss to City.

Liverpool break £300m barrier

Liverpool have announced a fresh multi-year deal with digital payments behemoth PayPal. The Reds have secured what marks the first-ever partnership between the American giant and a Premier League side.

When the club released their latest financial figures in February, commercial revenue had surged by £36 million to reach £308m - a sum that's expected to continue climbing.

PayPal will now serve as the club's 'official digital payments' partner, introducing a loyalty scheme for supporters across the globe. The club states the agreement is "set to enhance the way Liverpool FC fans engage with the club, both online and in person".

This fresh collaboration follows swiftly after the Premier League champions' deal with home appliance manufacturer Haier. The Reds have also welcomed UPS, Google Pixel, Peloton and Orion Innovation to their expanding roster of commercial allies in recent months.
