“Decision up to Chelsea” – Fabrizio Romano reveals surprise player considering January exit

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is considering a January exit in order to get more playing time according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues signed Jorgensen from Spanish side Villarreal back in the summer of 2024 for a fee believed to be around £20.9m.

The Dane has had to play second fiddle to Robert Sanchez for most of his time at Stamford Bridge, but did have run in the side for a few games last season when the Spaniard was dropped.

Filip Jorgensen considering Chelsea exit in January

Jorgensen has made 28 appearances for the Blues in total, but has been limited to just four appearances in all competitions so far this season.

The 23-year-old has featured just once in the league, when he came on in the defeat to Manchester United after Sanchez was sent off.

Jorgensen was criticised for his performance against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup, where he really struggled to deal with the balls the League One side were putting into the box.

The Denmark international last played for the Blues in the cup tie against Wolves, and with Denmark in the World Cup Play-Offs Romano has provided an update on his future.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Filip Jorgensen considers potential January exit to get more game time ahead of second half of season.

“Decision up to Chelsea, Jorgensen open to new chapter ahead of World Cup playoffs with Denmark as well.”

Chelsea would have to sign a replacement

If Chelsea allowed Jorgensen to leave then a replacement keeper would have to come in to preserve the depth between the sticks.

That would mean Chelsea would need to enter the market, which could open the doors for Mike Maignan, who will have just six months left on his contract.

The other potential option would be recalling Mike Penders from Strasbourg, but that would represent a risk, and he needs to continue to play week in week out to aid his development.
