Liverpool are set to return to action this weekend against Nottingham Forest at Anfield after Arne Slot's team were sent into the two-week international break on a low note after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Before the disappointing result at the Etihad, Liverpool had secured consecutive victories against Aston Villa and Real Madrid. These wins had sparked hope among fans that the Reds had bounced back from a poor spell of form, which saw the reigning champions lose four Premier League matches in succession.

However, the loss to City has highlighted that Slot still has a significant task ahead to steer his underperforming squad back on course, with Liverpool currently sitting eighth in the league table. The Reds had an extraordinary summer transfer window, breaking their transfer record twice: first for Florian Wirtz and later for Alexander Isak, but neither have lived up to expectations.

Here's all the latest news from Anfield.

No 'panic' over Isak

A member of Sweden's coaching staff has eased concerns about Isak. The former Newcastle forward was an unused substitute for Sweden in their 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, the player's absence stemmed from concerns over a potential suspension for March's World Cup qualifying clash. The striker had made his comeback on Saturday following nearly four weeks on the sidelines with a groin problem, reports the Mirror.

Isak entered the fray as a second-half replacement but couldn't prevent Graham Potter's team from suffering a crushing 4-1 defeat to Switzerland. It was then anticipated that the Reds' forward would play a more significant role against Slovenia.

But following Saturday's loss, Tuesday's match had become meaningless. Stefan Pettersson, who serves alongside Sweden manager Potter, explained: "We receive some supplementary letters from FIFA and UEFA about these things.

"I want to double-check what it might say in them. Before the next game, we will know with 100% certainty what applies. There is no panic about it now. That could be the case [that Isak and some Sweden players were at risk of suspension]. It certainly can [affect team selection]."

Potter continued: "The situation with the yellow cards, injuries to players, it's not an ideal situation. You don't want players who go on the pitch and can't be aggressive. You're not yourself then."

Isak hasn't featured for the Reds since hobbling off at the interval during the 5-1 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22. He remained on the bench throughout Liverpool's loss to City.

PayPal now becomes the club's 'official digital payments' partner, which will see the introduction of a loyalty programme for fans around the globe.

The club states the deal is "set to enhance the way Liverpool FC fans engage with the club, both online and in person".

This new partnership follows closely on the heels of the Premier League champions' agreement with Haier, a home appliance brand. The Reds have also recently added UPS, Google Pixel, Peloton and Orion Innovation to their roster of partners.
