Arne Slot already made January transfer feelings clear amid Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo links

Although speculation is growing once again on Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo, Arne Slot may have already ruled Liverpool out of making any moves in the January transfer window.

The Reds are being heavily linked with moves during the New Year, despite going big on the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in the summer.

That spending spree hasn’t had the desired effect so far though, with Liverpool lagging eight points behind Arsenal in the race for this season’s Premier League title, and with pundits suggesting the club may have to dip back into the transfer market if it is to make up ground on the Gunners.

To that end, rumors linking Guehi and Semenyo have been building recently, with suggestions that both could make the move to Anfield in January.

Reports are suggesting that Crystal Palace believes Liverpool could be the only club that would make a move for Guehi in the New Year, while Bournemouth could be forced into letting Semenyo go should the Reds - or any other club for that matter - meet its $85 million release clause.

Slot though may have already poured cold water on suggestions that Liverpool will be busy again in the next window, having indicated that he doesn’t want to add more players to his squad.

“That all depends on whether we get more injuries, yes or no, and if there's a chance in the market - all the answers I always give,” Slot said back in September.

“But I would not prefer to go to 24/25 players. Also, if it is ever a situation where I lead a team that has four or five injuries throughout the whole season, it might be a bit smarter to go to 24/25, but recent history showed that [we have a good record] until now.

“We don't have five or six injuries at the same time throughout the whole season. If that would be the situation, then we would end up with 15/16 players and that would normally be difficult.

“So it's a choice I like to make but I think it is also a financial choice that we as a club have to make. If we want to keep these top players, we cannot have 24/25 of them.”

Liverpool.com says: Although Slot might feel his squad is already big enough, he might have to make an exception in the case of Guehi.

The Palace defender should be the priority over Semenyo if Liverpool is going to dip into the market in January, and it’s not like his arrival would disrupt anything in the current squad.

After all, Giovanni Leoni is out for the rest of the season, and we don’t even know if Ibrahima Konate will be at Anfield next year, so it would just be sensible planning from Slot and Richard Hughes to make a move for Guehi as early as possible.
