Pondering bye week adjustments for the Broncos

Good morning, Broncos Country. With the Denver Broncos on their bye week, I figured today’s installment of _Horse Tracks_ would be apt focus on potential adjustments Denver could make to finish off the last six games of the season strong. The Broncos have certainly done well thus far. Heck, I think it’s safe to say they’ve exceeded most fans expectations.

Sporting a 9-2 record and two-game lead in the AFC West, this is the best the orange and blue have looked since their Super Bowl 50 winning season. Even so, it’s safe to say there is still room for improvement. Especially Denver wants to be true contenders for the Lombardi Trophy and make some noise in the playoffs.

**A “motion” to finding A groove on early downs for the offense**

The Broncos’ endeavors on offense this year have been quite the roller coaster ride. The ups have been thrilling, while the lows have been downright awful. Despite such inconsistency, there are still reasons to be excited about their potential throughout the remainder of the regular season after how they came together in the second half against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Denver utilizes pre-snap motion [some of the least](https://twitter.com/Ihartitz/status/1988653692179087773) in the NFL. Before their bye week last year, they were also ranked quite low. This is an area on offense I’d like to see an adjustment at. I’d like to think Head Coach Sean Payton has some plays in mind that he hasn’t got a lot of use of through 11 games that can help change this.

We saw a big difference in the utilization of motion pre-snap after the bye week last season. Marvin Mims Jr. was often deployed in this manner, and he finished off his 2024 campaign on a high note. It really helped their early down success rate as well. I’m hopeful the Broncos find a way to channel that same energy in their last six games of the season in ‘25.

**Getting the play calls and player groupings in faster**

After watching every game this season, far too often has it appeared that the Broncos are getting play calls in too late or often rotating various players to get into the right personnel. I may be wrong, but believe it’s putting more pressure on Bo Nix, who doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of time to diagnose what is going on pre-snap. It definitely seems that has put him at a bit of disadvantage.

It’s hard to get into a rhythm with constant player changes and long play calls. Perhaps a simplified approach going forward is best. It’s definitely something offensive players, as well as Payton, have discussed a lot in post-game pressers. Denver appeared to be more comfortable in the second half of the Chiefs game going more up tempo and keeping things limited in this respect. That, coupled in with the aforementioned, could definitely help Nix and the rest of the offense out

What about you, Broncos Country? Those were the two biggest things I had jotted down as changes I’d like to see moving forward. What are some bye week adjustments that you would like to see implemented by the Broncos? As always, thank you for reading. Here is today’s slate of articles for your enjoyment.
