Liverpool will be desperate to wrestle themselves back into Premier League title contention after making a poor start to the defence of their crown. The reigning champions are all the way down in eighth after losing five of their opening 11 matches. Their wretched form has left them eight points adrift of leaders Arsenal, meaning they have a mountain to climb over the coming months.
It was a summer of change on Merseyside as the Reds splashed hundreds of millions of pounds in the transfer market. However, many of their new arrivals have struggled with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Alexander Isak yet to find top form. It leaves Arne Slot needing to find solutions as a matter of urgency, but stopping the rot will be easier said than done.
Express Sport takes a look at how Liverpool can get back to their brilliant best...
£160m double deal agreed
Liverpool could be set for another busy window in January, with the Reds still needing more quality in certain areas. They could reap the benefits of signing a top-class defensive midfielder and Aurelien Tchouameni would be the perfect fit.
He has been admired by the Reds for many years and would offer some much-needed protection in front of the back four, helping to address the defensive fragilities which have caused problems in recent months.
Real Madrid are unlikely to sell Tchouameni unless it is really worth their while, meaning at least £100million may be required to make a deal stick.
Liverpool could also benefit from poaching Antoine Semenyo, who has a £60m release clause in his Bournemouth contract. He is regarded as one of the Premier League's finest wingers and would be able to succeed Mohamed Salah over the long term.
Isak benched and Ekitike starts
Liverpool signed two prolific forwards in the summer, with Hugo Ekitike arriving shortly before Isak was snapped up in a record-breaking deal.
But in spite of his mammoth price tag, the Swedish forward is yet to prove why he should be starting ahead of his French colleague.
Ekitike has looked the better player and deserves to be Liverpool's first-choice striker until Isak shows otherwise. While the latter shouldn't be written off by any stretch, it would make sense for the Reds to go with what has been working until things improve.
Isak will be hoping to start firing on all cylinders when he makes his return from injury, which could come against Nottingham Forest on the weekend.
Kerkez dropped after dreadful start
Liverpool's new left-back has endured a baptism of fire at Anfield, having failed to demonstrate why he should be considered an upgrade on Andy Robertson.
His lowest moment came when he was substituted before half-time in Liverpool's win over Burnley, while he was branded a 'baby' by Gary Neville following the defeat to Chelsea.
The best thing for Kerkez would be to remove him from the firing line and reinstate Robertson as the preferred choice on the left.
The veteran Scot is a proven operator and deserves to win back his starting place until Kerkez can be trusted to hit the required standards.
