Jamie Carragher's answer is spot-on when asked if Liverpool are in a ‘crisis’ right now - opinion

Jamie Carragher has given his view on whether or not Liverpool are now in ‘crisis’ under Arne Slot this season.

Arne Slot’s future was called into question earlier this season amid a poor run of results.

On the back of that speculation, Liverpool beat Aston Villa in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the Champions League.

However, a poor performance against Manchester City has once again got people talking about the Premier League champions’ struggles in 2025/26.

Jamie Carragher is right about Liverpool

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, Jamie Carragher was asked: “Do you think it’s a crisis?”

The former Liverpool centre-back responded by stating his belief that the Reds are indeed enduring a difficult period right now.

He said: “Yeah. Well, yeah, what is a crisis? If you lose seven out of 10 is that a crisis? That’s pretty poor isn’t it?”

While not something fans will want to hear right now, it’s hard to argue with Carragher’s assessment.

Liverpool’s defensive record is the worst it has been at this stage of a season since 2020/21.

After being made favourites for the Premier League title early in the campaign, Slot’s men are now predicted to finish third, and as Carragher mentioned, just three wins from seven is seriously poor form for a team who were expected to be competing at the top end of the division this term.

Three ways Liverpool’s season can be turned around

The problems at Anfield right now are concerning, but a few changes could see the Reds improve a great deal in the coming weeks.

Alisson is returning to training after missing five league matches in a row, and the stats suggest the Merseyside outfit are much stronger with him between the sticks.

Elsewhere, Florian Wirtz needs to be used out wide, rather than in the number 10 role we have seen him in for much of the campaign so far.

Wirtz needs more freedom, and after impressing on the left in the win over Madrid, it’s clear Liverpool’s midfield functions a lot better when Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai can play together.

Finally, Liverpool should push to sign Marc Guehi during the January transfer window.

Centre-back is a problem area right now, but a cut-price move for the soon-to-be free agent would improve Slot’s backline a great deal from January onwards.
