Boyd took to social media on Wednesday to issue an update on his condition. He posted a picture of himself smiling in his hospital bed on Instagram.

He added in the caption: "God is real. God is powerful! I'm sorry, I have no words at the moment. Just grateful! I'm coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone."

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn spoke addressed Boyd's situation in his media availability on Wednesday. He told reporters: "That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits. His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

When asked when Boyd could be released from hospital, Glenn replied: “Don’t know just yet. But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

Glenn was positive about Boyd's outlook, but the head coach's primary focus was not about football. He said: "The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.

“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd signed with the Jets as a free agent in March, but a training camp shoulder injury saw him placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The cornerback's biggest impact through his seven-year NFL career has been on special teams, and he was expected to be a foundational player for the Jets in that regard before his injury.
