Kyle Shanahan praised Eddy Pineiro as a fierce competitor and expressed satisfaction with the San Francisco 49ers‘ acquisition of the veteran kicker. A Grade 1 hamstring injury has created an immediate need, however, with Pineiro potentially sidelined for one to two weeks. The 49ers responded quickly by hosting five kickers for workouts on Wednesday as the playoff race intensifies.

Tanner Brown arrived still seeking his first regular-season opportunity after time on the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons practice squads. Coaches appreciate his accuracy, though he remains viewed as a developmental prospect.
Anders Carlson brings familiarity with the organization, having kicked for Green Bay, the New York Jets, and San Francisco last season. His 83% success rate across 48 field-goal attempts demonstrates the consistency the staff has already evaluated.
Matt Gay joined the workouts fresh off his release from Washington. He spent recent weeks searching for momentum after struggling with critical misses during his time with the Commanders. Despite converting 13 of 19 attempts in Washington, his career accuracy keeps him in consideration for opportunities.
John Parker Romo contributed recent game experience from Atlanta, where he made 11 of 14 field goals. His background with Minnesota provided additional exposure to NFL-level execution. Cade York completed the group, a younger prospect still establishing reliability after navigating practice squad assignments.
San Francisco’s methodical approach reflects the stakes involved late in the season. While each candidate possesses some level of skill, none has demonstrated the sustained consistency required for a permanent role.
