Chelsea Player Wants Out Just 15 Months After Declaring He Wanted To“Follow”In Club Legend’s Footsteps

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is hoping to leave Stamford Bridge in January, according to reports.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Fabrizio Romano said that the 23-year-old is keen on getting more first-team football:

“Filip Jorgensen, together with his agents, is considering to leave Chelsea already in the January transfer window.

“Jorgensen respects Chelsea’s strategy, respects also what Enzo Maresca and his staff are deciding, but at the same time, while he’s a very good professional, a very serious boy and not just a very good goalkeeper, Jorgensen wants to play.”

Romano cited the World Cup as the key motivation for Jorgensen’s desire to move midseason. He made his first appearance for Denmark last summer against Northern Ireland but he has yet to be given his second cap, with veteran Kasper Schmeichel still regarded as the number one.

Jorgensen hasn’t played much this season

The Dane has made only 4 appearances in total, with one of those coming in the Premier League. He replaced Robert Sanchez after the Spaniard was sent off against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jorgensen has also played against Lincoln City and Wolves in the Carabao Cup, as well as in the Champions League fixture versus Ajax, but he hasn’t looked particularly convincing when given opportunities. Most would agree with head coach Enzo Maresca that Sanchez is the better of the two options at the moment.

He is a fan of a Chelsea legend

When Jorgensen was signed from Villarreal for a fee of around £20m in July 2024, he declared that he was a massive fan of one of the Blues’ former goalkeepers:

“I always liked watching Chelsea because I watched a lot of Petr Cech growing up, so Chelsea were one of my favourite teams to follow.”

It appears that Jorgensen won’t be following in Cech’s footsteps if he does leave Stamford Bridge in the New Year.
