Man Utd have shown signs of improvement under head coach Ruben Amorim this season.

It might have been a difficult start to the season for Manchester United, but they are reaping the rewards of their faith in Ruben Amorim after a run of five matches without defeat. The Portuguese head coach was under huge pressure after a disastrous debut campaign in charge, though United always understood he could not be fairly judged until he was backed in the transfer market and given time to work with his squad in the summer.

United invested over £200 million in four senior signings, and they have all been integral to their recent success under Amorim in recent weeks. Senne Lammens has been a revelation in goal, Matheus Cunha has impressed in attack and even Benjamin Sesko has shown he has the raw potential to be a Premier League star.

None has shown quite as bright as Bryan Mbeumo, though. He has six goals and one assist for United so far and was also recognised as the Premier League Player of the Month for October. He will be sorely missed when he takes part in the Africa Cup of Nations next month and United will have a tough task trying to replace him.

Rooney hails Mbeumo as standout Premier League star

Wayne Rooney knows what it takes to shine in the Premier League and is well aware of the huge pressure of playing for a club the size of Manchester United.

He has transitioned into a role as a pundit this season and has been watching on keenly as Ruben Amorim attempts to bring the good times back to Old Trafford. Speaking in his new role recently, the United legend was asked for his verdict on the Premier League season so far and was asked for his top three players in the competition so far.

"Top three, probably Antoine Semenyo. I think he's been brilliant for Bournemouth. Carrying on his form from last season," Rooney told Amazon Prime Video Sport.

“I would also put Bryan Mbeumo in there. I think he’s been really good for Man United, even after a difficult start to the season for the club. I think he’s been really good.

"Third one, I'd probably go Gyokeres I think. Arsenal have been crying out for a number nine for a few years now and he's come in and his work rate, his determination, his hold up play, and obviously scoring a few goals as well. So I'd say that's my top three."

It means there was no place for Man City star Erling Haaland, despite the fact he has already netted 19 goals in 15 appearances for his club this season. To be fair, Haaland has set such high standards that his recent success is almost to be expected, such is his extremely high level of output.
