Boyd, who was initially listed in critical but stable condition, is now recovering at Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen. Glenn said the 28-year-old sounded upbeat when they spoke.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenntold reporters Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits, and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn added that it was “not the right time” to discuss Boyd’s football future and instead focused on the player’s health and emotional state.

Boyd shared hisown update on Instagram on Wednesday, telling followers he was “coming along, starting to breathe on my own now.”

Kris Boyd was already out for the season before gunshot injury, team placed him on IR back in August

While a recent gunshot injury makes it impossible for Kris Boyd to return to play, he was already ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season due to a previous shoulder injury.

The New York Jets had placed Boyd on the season-ending injured reserve list back in August after he was injured during training camp.

Boyd suffered a shoulder injury during a training camp practice on August 2, 2025, which required surgery. He was subsequently placed on season-ending injured reserve on August 18.

The gunshot wound he suffered occurred while he was already sidelined for the year.

Boyd spent the 2024 season with the Houston Texans after re-signing with the team on a one-year deal in March 2024. He later joined the New York Jets as a free agent in March 2025.

He played college football at the University of Texas before entering the league as a seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft. Boyd remained with Minnesota for four seasons, from 2019 through 2022.

He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in April 2023 but was released in October of that year. He joined the Houston Texans’ practice squad that same month and earned a promotion to the active roster in December.

The Texans re-signed him in March 2024, and he contributed primarily on special teams throughout the 2024 season.

In March 2025, Boyd signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets, marking the next step in his NFL journey.
