Raheem Morris says the obvious about the future of Michael Penix Jr.

In light of recent events — five straight losses and ACL surgery for Michael Penix Jr. — the Falcons are in a position where the most obvious course of action is to blow the whole damn thing up.

Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris should be let go the day after the season ends. Both have completely failed the organization over the course of their respective tenures. But whether they stick around or not, the biggest issue now is the quarterback situation. Despite paying one quarterback $100 million guaranteed and drafting another in the top 10, the Falcons have no choice but to hop back on the quarterback carousel this offseason.

Morris said you do have to change your QB plans in the offseason now with Penix's injury. Morris said they'll cross that bridge when it comes. #Falcons

Raheem Morris should probably be more concerned with firing up the résumé builder than worrying about what the Falcons face this offseason, but he’s spot on with this statement.

This will be Michael Penix Jr.’s third ACL surgery, and it’s his fifth season-ending injury in the last eight years. Assuming he’s going to be ready for the season opener next year is nothing more than a pipe dream. Given his injury history, it’s far more likely he doesn’t play at all.

With Kirk Cousins likely to be cut, that puts the Falcons in a position where they have to completely overhaul their quarterback room. Atlanta needs a new starting quarterback, and the worst part is they don’t even have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

It’s a nightmare scenario for the Falcons. They will miss the playoffs for the eighth straight year, and once again they have more questions than answers at the most important position in all of sports. Throw in their lack of draft capital and yet another looming regime change, and it’s hard to imagine the Raheem Morris–Terry Fontenot era playing out any worse.
