The Cleveland Browns haven't had much to cheer for on offense this season, but the defense, led by Myles Garrett, has been incredible. There's a lot of promise with that unit, and Garrett is proving to be an elite player once again.
In Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens, Garrett notched four sacks on Lamar Jackson, and while the Browns wound up losing, his effort was one of the best this season.
However, despite Garrett's four sacks, he didn't win the AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award. Andrew Siciliano of Inside Coverage noted how this isn't the first time Garret has been snubbed for this award, and somehow, it's been to the same Miami Dolphins player both times.
Dolphins linebacker snubs Myles Garret for AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award for second time
"Myles Garrett is passed over by Dolphins LB Jordyn Brooks for AFC Defensive Player of the Week AGAIN." Siciliano writes. "Brooks won this week despite Garrett's 4 sacks. Brooks won in Week 8 when Garrett had 5 sacks."
Despite Garrett putting up incredible sack numbers in one game, his team lost, and in turn, he lost out on the award.
Only players on teams that won can win the weekly NFL awards, making Garrett and others on struggling teams unlikely winners of the Player of the Week Awards, no matter how great they play.
For players like Garrett, who are on a team that struggles to win, his chances of winning an award every year are slim, despite how great he plays.
At 2-8, the Browns have given their players only two chances to win a weekly award. And while Garrett won't win it every week, he was more than deserving of the award in Week 8 and Week 11.

What makes this snubbing of Garrett stick out all the more is that he was snubbed by the same Dolphins linebacker both times.
Brooks had an incredible 20 tackles for the Dolphins in their win, and while an incredible performance, Garrett's four sacks should've been enough to be named Defensive Player of the Week.
The NFL doesn't reward individuals on losing teams, but based on the special circumstances with Garrett in Weeks 8 and 11, he should be given the award.
What makes Garrett's snubbing stand out so much is that this isn't the first time Brooks, a Dolphins linebacker (on a 4-7 team), won the award over Garrett despite the Browns pass rusher reaching at least four sacks.
It's a strange coincidence, and only highlights just how great Garrett is playing, and how much these weekly NFL awards only get rewarded to players on winning teams.
