GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Green Bay Packers are looking to get hot with the season already past the halfway point.
The good news is, Toyotathon is here.
What do car deals have to do with football? During the annual late-season sales event, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love plays his best football.
That’s good news as the Packers get ready to host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Over the last two seasons, Love threw for 28 touchdowns and only two picks at the same time as the sales event.
Toyotathon kicked off last Sunday with Love throwing for two scores and no interceptions.
That margin is now an impressive 30-to-2.
What started as a joke online quickly turned into a sports superstition.
Love says he’s letting himself enjoy the fun of it.
“I think it’s just something that’s cool. It’s something that the fans took and just ran with it and made it a thing. Now it’s here and it’s definitely interesting,” Love said.
“You know, you look at the stats. For everybody on our offense, I think we start to get into a better groove, start to get in that rhythm of making plays and going out there. For me I think it’s just understanding I’ve been through some games now through the season and understanding what I need to do in every kind of situation. Just being smart with the ball, getting completions, and then just guys making plays.”
For additional context, the Packers’ record under Love during Toyotathon is 12 wins, 5 losses.
For the other times of the season, their record is 7 wins, 9 losses.
