Another cruel blow has befallen a Liverpool defender with surgery now confirmed for the hamstring injury.
Liverpool have emerged from the international break with an encouraging fitness boost that should significantly strengthen Arne Slot’s squad.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to end a seven-week absence to start against Nottingham Forest on Saturday after resuming full training this week, having been sidelined with a hamstring injury since September 30.
Alexander Isak, who missed much of the autumn with injury troubles, has returned without any fresh fitness concerns following Sweden’s recent fixtures.
The striker was strategically rested during Sweden’s clash with Slovakia on Tuesday, meaning he avoided any potential setbacks and arrives back at Merseyside in good condition.
Jeremie Frimpong’s situation has also improved, with the right-back edging closer to a return from his recurring hamstring injury.
While the Dutchman won’t be fully fit for Forest, he is expected to feature in the coming weeks
However, for one Liverpool man on loan, bad news has arrived.
Liverpool left-back Owen Beck has suffered a hamstring injury while on loan at Derby County in an under-21 fixture against Blackburn Rovers earlier this month,
The 23-year-old’s injury required surgery, with Rams boss John Eustace confirming the blow to the Derby Telegraph:
“Unfortunately, Owen has had to have surgery on his hamstring, so he’s going to be out for the next three or four months,” he said.
“I feel really sorry for Becky, and obviously, I had worked with him at Blackburn.”
“Bringing him to the football club was a real success from the recruitment side, especially to bring a player of that quality here and to be able to showcase him.”
“Over the course of the season, I think everyone was excited about that, but unfortunately, he’s had a really difficult time.”
“We all feel sorry for the boy, but it’s all part of his learning and his development.”
“He’ll come back stronger, but it’s not going to be with us.”
The Welsh defender will return to Anfield for rehabilitation after being ruled out for three to four months, meaning he has failed to make a single senior appearance for the Championship side since his summer arrival.
Beck had undergone a previous hamstring surgery at the end of last season during his loan spell at Blackburn, and persistent complications from scar tissue buildup have prevented him from breaking into Derby’s first team throughout the autumn months.
