We have to be honest, here; Sam Darnold played a horrendous game and had four interceptions, which is something you just do not see in the NFL much. Every once in a while, you might see a two or three-interception game from a quarterback, but four is just insane.
It was, to be blunt, a bad game for the Seattle Seahawks, but I guess if there is any consolation, still having a chance to win in the end was noteworthy despite the sloppy play. But this was a massive game in the NFC West, and the QB simply did not rise to the occasion.
Darnold signed a three-year deal with the Seahawks in the offseason after a marvelous breakout season in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings, making some wonder why the Vikings moved on. Well, this game may have given a huge hint as to why the Vikings decided to let Darnold test the market.
Seahawks QB1 Sam Darnold's four interceptions prove why the Minnesota Vikings moved on. Period.
Darnold tossed four interceptions, finishing the day like this:
29/44
279 yards
0 touchdowns
4 interceptions
45.5 passer rating

Now, in the season, Darnold has a whopping 10 interceptions and has thrown seven over his past four games. Seven. He's nearly matched his INT total from 2024 with the Vikings, where he threw 12, but he had 25 touchdown passes that year. Despite the loss, though, Seattle is still 7-3 and in a great position to get back into the postseason.
This abysmal game from Darnold, though, does kind of prove why the Vikings moved on. Late in the season in 2024, the Vikings and Detroit Lions had a huge game to effectively decide the NFC North title. In that game, the Vikings had just nine points, and Darnold finished with 166 yards and a 55.5 passer rating.
In the Wild Card Round against the LA Rams, Darnold again played poorly, throwing for 245 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and only led the team to nine points. It is worth wondering if the QB is simply unable to rise to the occasion in these big games.
And if that is the case, the Seahawks are going to be one-and-done in the playoffs and may not be able to win the division. Still just one game behind the Rams, Seattle figures to still be in contention for the NFC West, but the last time Sam Darnold was in this situation, he fell flat on his face.
