The Dallas Cowboys are starting to get healthy, and one of their returning star players is DeMarvion Overshown. The star linebacker returned to action after suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL in the 2024 season. In his return, the defender spoke honestly about his performance since his return from injury.
Overshown was on a massive pace in 2024 before the gruesome injury occurred. He secured one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five sacks, and 90 combined tackles before the injury happened.
In what might have been a Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod, Overshown was forced out of action due to his significant injury. It took the star defender a bit more than a year to return, but he made his 2025 season debut in Week 11.
In the Cowboys’ Week 11 win against the Las Vegas Raiders, Overshown walked away with one total tackle, which counted as a tackle for loss.
Following the win, Overshown was brutally honest on his performance. He spoke to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, revealing how he feels his return went.
"Me, myself, a little rust," Overshown said. "But it felt good being out there. The film, I didn't want to look at it. That says a lot. It's simple stuff. It ain't anything that can't be fixed. It's just being antsy, ready to play football. I think I was more-so worried about showing my physical abilities than my critical-thinking abilities and my processing of the game.”
"It's easy, fixable stuff, so I'm excited for this next game. That was, I'm not going to say the worst I'll ever play, but coming off 343 days, it's like, I can be way better than that,” Overshown said.
Overshown is correct in that he can easily fix the simple stuff that he feels might have gotten away from him. He was one of the best linebackers and pass rushers in 2024, and that is something that is inherent to him. The good news is he was still active, even with a brace on his surgically repaired knee.
There was a moment where he had to run to the sideline to have his brace retaped, but that did not cause him to miss more than a few snaps. The Cowboys’ defense needs more firepower, and Overshown being back on the field was a huge boost.
Despite the one tackle for loss, Dallas’ defense looked better than ever. They nearly silenced the Raiders completely, only giving up 16 points.
The team is now 4-5-1 on the season, and very much in the conversation to make the playoffs. If Overshown can get back to his normal self in the coming weeks, Dallas will have a strong pass rushing presence to help the defense silence even more high-powered opposing offenses.
