Liverpool could potentially sign another Mo Salah in the January transfer window - opinion

Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign a player who has followed a similar career path to Serge Gnabry.

The 33-year-old’s future has been called into question previously after links to the Saudi Pro League.

Salah was viewed as a top target by the league, but he ended up remaining at Anfield during the 2025 summer transfer window.

However, the Liverpool winger’s form has taken a dip this season, leading to questions being asked by Wayne Rooney and more.

Now though, amid a potential future exit and a drop in performances, the Premier League champions could have a chance to sign some competition for Salah.

Serge Gnabry has followed Mohamed Salah’s career

Rousing The Kop revealed earlier this month that Serge Gnabry has been offered to Liverpool, as well as several more clubs.

Journalist Graeme Bailey told us: “Liverpool have been offered Serge Gnabry by intermediaries, making them aware of a possible free transfer opportunity,” says the journalist.

“Likewise, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Juventus are amongst the other clubs that have also been spoken to.

“Gnabry is out of contract at the end of the season and he is continuing talks with Bayern, but his camp and intermediaries are doing their jobs by contacting them.”

The German has had a prolific career in his home country and has emulated Salah’s career path in many ways.

Gnabry started his senior career at Premier League high flyers, Arsenal, but failed to have any meaningful impact in North London.

He was eventually sold to Werder Bremen in 2016 before being snapped up by Bayern a year later, where he has had a great career.

Salah’s rise to the top of the European game has been very similar, initially breaking in at Chelsea but struggling for regular minutes at Stamford Bridge.

He, like Gnabry, left his Premier League club in 2016, linking up with AS Roma, before eventually returning to England with Liverpool, where he has established himself as one of the greatest players to ever feature in the Premier League.

While signing a player who has never performed in the English top-flight carries some risk, Salah is a great example of what can happen when the gamble pays off.

Gnabry would seemingly be open to a return to the Premier League at some point in his career as well.

Speaking in 2017, as per ESPN, he said: “In any case, my wish is to play in England again at some stage.

“The atmosphere there is unique. If you have experienced that, you miss it. I want to experience that again.”
