Liverpool defender Owen Beck has undergone surgery on a hamstring injury during his loan spell at Derby County. The left-back moved to Championship outfit Derby during the summer on a season-long loan deal, linking up once again with manager John Eustace, under whom he previously played at Blackburn Rovers.
An initial injury setback ruled Beck out of action, though there was optimism about his comeback when he turned out for the Rams' youth team last week.
Yet after sustaining a hamstring injury just 40 minutes into his comeback appearance, Beck was forced off, and the severity of that problem now appears more serious than initially thought, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Eustace confirmed the news when speaking to the media ahead of the weekend's round of Championship fixtures, stating: "Unfortunately, Owen has had to have surgery on his hamstring, so he's going to be out for the next three or four months.
"I feel really sorry for Becky, and obviously, I had worked with him at Blackburn. Bringing him to the football club was a real success from the recruitment side, especially to bring a player of that quality here and to be able to showcase him.
"Over the course of the season, I think everyone was excited about that, but unfortunately, he's had a really difficult time. We all feel sorry for the boy, but it's all part of his learning and his development. He'll come back stronger, but it's not going to be with us."
Liverpool have been grappling with several significant injuries this campaign, with Alisson Becker, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni among the most prominent recent players to be on the sidelines. The Reds have has tough run of form just lately and will be hoping to recover following the international break, with some returning players potentially aiding that revival.

Beck's loan spell is now expected to end January, with a return to Anfield already confirmed as he recovers from his latest injury blow. The 23-year-old failed to make a single appearance for Derby's first team during his time at the club, though he has featured three times for Liverpool's first team so far across his career.
It represents a blow for the left-back, who had been viewed as an exciting acquisition for Eustace over the summer. The Derby boss said at the time: "He’s a really exciting young player and I was very fortunate to work with him last year.
"I think everyone could see the growth he made playing in the Championship, and he’s a super young talented player and he’s one of the most exciting full-backs in the country for his age at the moment. He’s just a very good young player. There is a lot to improve, and if he comes to Derby and chooses to come to us, our job is to help develop him."
Beck had previously spoken to RamsTV about his ambitions for the season, stating: "First and foremost, I want to play games.
"I want to play and stay injury-free. In the game, I'm going to set myself personal goals. Also, I'm sure the gaffer will have goals that he wants the team to achieve. Hopefully, I can hit my personal goals and help the team achieve theirs too."
Sadly, the Liverpool ace hasn't been able to fulfil these objectives as he now returns to his parent club. His main focus over the coming months will be on recovery, with the defender likely setting his sights on regaining fitness for the next campaign.
Beck penned a new long-term contract at Liverpool in July 2025, securing his future before heading to Derby.
