Eagles reporter just gave a perfect (and succinct) breakdown of QB Jalen Hurts

Yet again, the Philadelphia Eagles continue to win a ton of games and are again in a position to win the NFC East and host multiple playoff games. There's simply been a ton of winning in this era of Eagles' football, but, as usual, there has also been a lot of drama.

The strong, feisty personality of head coach Nick Sirianni always seems to stir something up from time to time, but there has definitely been some drama with the players, and most of it has recently centered on A.J. Brown. The veteran receiver is among the best in the NFL, but he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in recent years.

Brown is only averaging 50.8 yards per game this year, and his yards per game have declined every year of his Eagles' career, which began back in 2022. However, this really should not be much of a surprise, as starting QB Jalen Hurts, while a winner, is not a prolific passer. This Eagles reporter recently gave a perfect breakdown of Hurts, and it could not be more true.

This is simply who Jalen Hurts is, always has been, and always will be

It feels like people overthink Jalen Hurts and who he is as a QB in the NFL, but Eliot Shorr-Parks hits the nail on the head with this summary of the QB, and it took just two points to make:

Both things are true about Hurts

** He has weaknesses that contribute to the passing game not being elite for 1.5 years

** He has elite strengths (clutch, mobile, smart) that regularly save this offense & contribute big time to them winning pretty much every single game

Period. End of story.

This is who Hurts is, always has been, and always will be. He was not highly thought of as a prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, and his draft position reflects that. While Hurts has a ton of great qualities that have translated into being a starting-caliber quarterback, he's never been a high-end passer, as he's always struggled to process quickly and just isn't a good quarterback at seeing the middle of the field.

That isn't debatable, either - it's simply the truth. However, he makes up for that with the 'intangible' things like being clutch late in games and always seeming to remain level-headed when the game gets at its most intense.

There is a reason why Philly has been to two Super Bowls since 2022, and Hurts is a big reason for that. He's not going to magically figure out how to become a prolific passer like Matthew Stafford or Joe Burrow, but he does have a future with this team, and they continue to win.

I could see a path where Philly eventually pursues an immediate upgrade, but for now, this is who they are sticking with.
