Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Carragher admitted he loved how Parrott had changed the narrative on the show with the panel talking about players from lesser clubs and nations.

“You know what I love, Roy, I think in the international break we end up talking, maybe even in this show, about Troy Parrott, about Kenny McLean’s goal, Kieran Tierney’s goal,” said Carragher.

“We’re on this show, or another TV show, we’re talking about the top teams in the Premier League and these top players, these are players whose careers where you’re not quite sure where they are.

“You [Rooney] mentioned to me that Troy Parrott’s playing in Holland? I think that’s brilliant.”

Everton fans have been excited by the interest in Parrott as the Blues consider their options ahead of January.

There will always be risks when it comes to signing players who are yet to prove themselves in the English top flight.

Parrott was never given the opportunity at Spurs, but as Carragher suggests, Parrott’s unusual path to success should not put teams off.

Troy Parrott must relish the opportunity to return to England

Jose Mourinho offered Parrott a lot of advice during their time together in north London, where it never really worked at senior level for the striker.

It was not until Parrott enjoyed a loan stint in the Netherlands that he found his feet in men’s football.

Having that opportunity to finally prove himself in the English top flight must be a challenge that Parrott would relish.

Whether he is quite ready to leave what he has started at AZ is another question, though.

Parrott has expressed his happiness at AZ, but if a Premier League club does come knocking then it may offer the striker with something to consider ahead of the World Cup.
