Kris Boyd and his wife welcomed a baby just before the NFL cornerback was shot in New York City, New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed.
Glenn shared the news amid an update to the media about Boyd’s condition on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn, 53, said. “I’m thinking about his wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s okay. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are okay.”
Boyd, 29, was shot in the stomach during an altercation outside a midtown Manhattan restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 16, authorities said.

The athlete, who has been on the IR list since August, was at Sei Less Restaurant on West 38th Street with two other Jets players, linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles, early Sunday when the shooting occurred, the New York Post reported.
Also on Wednesday, Boyd shared his own update about how his recovery is going.
In an Instagram Story, the University of Texas standout shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed, appearing to be in good spirits.
"God is real, God is powerful!," Boyd wrote on the top of the photo. Below, he wrote, "I’m sorry I have no words at the moment….Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!"
After initially arriving at the hospital in critical condition, Boyd’s status was upgraded to stable, ABC 7 NY reported. He underwent several surgeries following the shooting for a bullet that was lodged in his right lung.
For Glenn, all that seemingly matters is that the seventh-year player is currently on the mend.
“That’s what eases my mind is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”
