The Real Housewives of Atlanta newcomer Angela Oakley said her husband, former NBA All-Star Charles Oakley, didn't quite understand the drama in her friend group during her first season on the show.
"We argued every day," Angela, 44, said with a laugh while speaking to Us Weekly exclusively at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas.
Asked whether Charles, 61, had any reservations about the couple returning to the show after season 16 wrapped, she replied, "Of course."
"Charles was like, ‘What are you doing? Why are you taking so long to go off on this person who says this? Why do you even want to be this person's friend?'" she recalled her spouse saying.
As Angela explained, however, a little drama is par for the course.
"I'm like, ‘Charles, this is a friend group. Friendships heal quick in this group. You have to get over it,'" she recalled. "Charles did have his reservations about coming back, but he supports me and he shows up for me, so he'll be here along for the ride."
It's fair for Charles to question why Angela would want to stay with the show into season 17, considering the couple's first season provided drama that carried straight through to the reunion show, taped in June, which Brit Eady and Kenya Moore skipped.
"I'm disappointed to not be a part of the #RHOA 16 reunion taping today," Kenya, 54, wrote via X at the time. "Please know I take full accountability for my actions and deeply apologize to all those affected including Brittney, the cast, crew, guests and viewers. I look forward to seeing you all back on Bravo soon."
Much of the early portion of the season centered around the drama between the two. In the April 6 episode, Kenya showed explicit pictures of a woman who was presumed to be Brit, 37. (Brit later explained via Instagram that the person in those images was not her.)
After Bravo conducted an investigation and decided that Kenya would not film with the cast for the rest of the season, the RHOA mainstay took to YouTube, where she claimed she was invited and then disinvited to the reunion. A Bravo spokesperson later told Us, "This is not accurate."
At BravoCon, RHOA's Phaedra Parks and Cynthia Baileyput their fellow Housewives on notice with season 17 on the horizon.
"We are coming for all of them," Cynthia, 58, exclusively told Us, while Phaedra, 52, added, "Move over, everybody. We are back. We are back, honey."
Phaedra promised "new peaches," a.k.a. new cast members, who she said are "very interesting."
"They're very different, honey. Very, very different. Not the same," she said. "So, I think that that adds a little spice to the gumbo. But also, we got the OGs and so that keeps it where it's supposed to be. … It's a wonderful mix."
Cynthia added that the upcoming season will blend the old with the new.
"I think one of the other things that made it such a fun season, we always do a domestic trip and an international trip, and you are looking at the hostess of the trips," she explained. "I won't tell you who did what. We had a great time. … The trips are very important."
Bravo has yet to announce a season 17 premiere date.
