The Houston Texans made a plethora of roster moves on Thursday, including cutting ties with a 2022 draft pick who was once viewed as a potential long-term piece.
Houston announced on Thursday that they've signed cornerback Ajani Carter to the active roster. To make room for Carter, the team waived running back Dameon Pierce.
"The #Texans have waived RB Dameon Pierce to make room for CB Ajani Carter on the 53-man roster," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote on X.
Along with adding Carter and letting go of Pierce, the team signed cornerback Damon Arnette and elevated safety Jalen Mills and linebacker Jackson Woodard to the 53-man roster.
Pierce's tenure with the Texans has officially ended after less than four seasons. The former fourth-round pick posted an incredibly promising rookie campaign in 2022, tallying 939 rushing yards with four touchdowns while adding 165 yards and one touchdown through the air.
However, as the years went on, Pierce's role in Houston's offense only decreased, and he has appeared in just four games this year. Pierce was a healthy scratch in two of the Texans' last three games before being cut.
Though his stint with Houston ended poorly, Pierce should be able to land on his feet and find an opportunity elsewhere. The Florida product possesses a ton of talent and is still fairly young at 25.
As for the Texans, Demeco Ryans' squad will square off against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 12. At 5-5, Houston is on the outside looking in of the AFC playoff picture.
