Giants’ Cam Skateboo is a ‘clown’, ex-basketball coach says: ‘Stop with all your (bleep)’

Giants running back Cam Skattebo appeared at a WWE event Monday night and participated in a scripted fight while recovering from a tibia fracture sustained in the Week 8 loss to the Eagles.

The rookie’s decision to stay active during his recovery drew sharp criticism Thursday from former college basketball coach Dan Dakich, who called him unprofessional on his show, “Don’t @ Me.”

On Tuesday, Skattebo addressed criticism on social media, saying he did not care what anyone had to say about his activities and was choosing to keep his spirits up during his recovery.

“Aye, honestly if you don’t like that I’m having a good time while dealing with a tough time, then just go ahead and unfollow and casually move on,” Skattebo said. “I’m not able to play football and have the fun I’ve been having my whole life so I am doing things outside the box trying to find stuff to keep me happy. Enjoy the rest of y’all’s week and just don’t talk about me if you ain’t got nothing nice to say.”

Dakich took aim at Skattebo, saying the rookie was putting the franchise in jeopardy.

“Oh, shut up, Skattebo,” Dakich said. “You haven’t done (bleep). You’re a media creation. Your team sucks, you’re hurt, and you’re acting like a little kid putting your entire franchise who’s relying on you in jeopardy, so stop with all your (bleep) and be an adult.”

Dakich then criticized Skattebo’s social media post and suggested the Giants void his contract.

“If I were the Giants, I’d say, ‘Yo, man, you go have fun, we’re going to void this contract,’” Dakich said. “Go get a lawyer and fight it. He isn’t good enough to worry about. This isn’t Walter Payton. This is a little guy that ran for a few yards on a bad team.”

“We always say in basketball that somebody’s got to be the leading scorer, leading assist, leading rebounder on a bad team,” Dakich continued. “Skattebo is a little guy in a big market on a bad team, so shut the living hell up and be a professional, you clown.”

Before his injury, Skattebo provided a spark for the Giants’ run game, rushing for 410 yards on 101 attempts (4.1 yards per carry) and had five rushing touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
