Where Andy Reid’s Super Bowl Record Ranks Among the Best Head Coaches in NFL History

The Kansas City Chiefs have become a dynasty in recent years, and a big reason has been the arrival of head coach Andy Reid. After arriving in 2013,Reid has helped the Chiefs enjoy a golden age, accounting for three of the franchise's four Super Bowl wins. Reid’s six Super Bowl appearances are tied for second with former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula and behind former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who has been to nine Super Bowls.

With three Super Bowl wins, Reid is also tied with Hall of Famers Bill Walsh (San Francisco 49ers) and Joe Gibbs (Washington Commanders) for the third-most all-time, trailing Belichick (6), and former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Chuck Noll (4).

Reid’s .500 winning percentage also ranks behind Belichick's all-time among coaches with a minimum of three Super Bowl appearances, trailing Walsh and Noll (1.000), Gibbs (.750) and Belichick (.667).

Reid made his first appearance with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2004 season, falling to Belichick and the New England Patriots. He didn't return to the big game until winning his first title with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2019 season before coming up short of a repeat the following year.

The Chiefs went back to the Super Bowl under Reid's guidance in 2022 and won it all before winning a second straight title in 2023. While Reid had a chance of a historic three-peat, he lost to the Eagles to cap off the 2024 season.

Reid has an overall record of 148-58 over his 13 years with the Chiefs, which puts him among some of the best coaches in the history of the franchise. His 148 wins are the most in franchise history and Reid is one of three coaches to win 100 games with the Chiefs including Marty Schottenheimer and Hank Stram.

Reid’s .718 winning percentage is also the highest in Chiefs’ history, leading Schottenheimer, who posted a .634 clip while coaching Kansas City from 1989 to 1998.

When it comes to the Chiefs’ playoff record, Reid is by far the most decorated coach in franchise history. In addition to bringing three Lombardi Trophies to Kansas City, the Chiefs have played in 26 playoff games under Reid, which is almost triple the number of Schottenheimer, who is second with 10 playoff games.

Reid also has the most playoff wins in franchise history with 18, dwarfing Stram’s second-place total of five. While Reid has the added benefit of the modern playoff format that expanded the field to 12 teams in 1990 and 14 teams in 2020, he has led the team to the playoffs more than any coach in team history, with 11 appearances, including 10 straight from 2015 to 2024.
