Roma has clear stance on Kostas Tsimikas transfer after Liverpool agreement

Roma is said to be relieved that it did not push to have an obligation-to-buy clause inserted into Kostas Tsimikas's loan move to the Italian giant.

Liverpool player Tsimikas completed a season-long loan move to Roma at the end of August, but has not had the best of starts to life with the Giallorossi.

The Greece international has started just two games in Serie A, and in one of those he was taken off at half-time, while in the other he lasted fewer than 70 minutes.

Football Italia reports that Tsimikas was excited by the Roma project, but that he has been a disappointment so far.

Roma plays in a 3-4-3 formation, so Tsimikas has been asked to play in the left wing-back role in the team, but former Manchester City player Angelino is the first choice in that position.

Angelino has missed the last few games due to illness, but Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has preferred to move Wesley — a natural right wing-back — over to the left flank in Angelino's absence rather than use Tsimikas.

Tsimikas isn't the only Liverpool loanee who has struggled this season: Harvey Elliott is also having a difficult time with his loan club, Aston Villa.

Elliott's loan move included an obligation for Villa to sign the player permanently after a certain number of appearances, but the requirement to trigger the obligation appears extremely unlikely to be met.

The youngster has been frozen out by Unai Emery after failing to make an impression on the Villa manager, opening up the possibility of him making an unexpected return to Liverpool in January.

Elliott was first left out of a Villa squad when the Midlands side faced Manchester City at the end of October, and Emery explained his decision.

"In the squad we needed one player to take out but I decided him," Emery said. "I am happy with him, he's training well. His commitment is fantastic, he's a good guy. It was a tactical decision.

"I spoke with him about it and my advice was to keep going. He's a very good player, only our demands are at a high level and some players and how they are performing last year and this year, are playing in the same position."

Frustratingly for Elliott, he cannot play for another club this season as he has already played for two clubs, and FIFA rules say that a player is not allowed to play for three clubs in a single campaign.
