President Donald Trump has been told he has "no idea what's going on" by Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub, following his repeated slander of the NFL's new kickoff rule.
The new rule, introduced last year and made permanent in 2025, requires the football to be kicked from the 35-yard line. However, every player on the kicking team must wait at the 40-yard line until the ball hits the ground. Players on the kicking team must also wait until the ball is touched by a returner inside the 20-yard line, which is deemed safer than the old rule.

Trump has slammed the new kickoff rule ever since it was introduced, and has campaigned for the NFL to restore its traditions. In a recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Trump said the rule "hurts the game," but Toub has told the U.S. President that he has no idea and hopes that Trump hears his response.

On Thursday, Toub was asked what he thought of Trump's hatred for the new kickoff rules, and didn't hold back. "He doesn't even know what he's looking at," Toub told reporters.
"He has no idea what's going on with the kickoff rule. So take that for what it's worth. And I hope he hears it."
Toub, 63, is a vastly experienced coach who began working as a graduate assistant at UTEP in 1986. After establishing himself at Missouri, Toub joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a special teams and quality control coach, before landing the special teams coordinator role at the Chicago Bears.

In 2013, Toub was hired by the Chiefs and has remained with the organization ever since. Toub is exceptionally close to Andy Reid and acts as his assistant head coach.
Trump's latest slander toward the NFL kickoff rule came on Nov. 11, when he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show during a Veterans Day tribute. "I think it's so terrible. I think it's so demeaning, and I think it hurts the game," Trump said.
"It hurts the pageantry. I've told that to [NFL commissioner] Roger Goodell, and I don't think it's any safer. I mean, you still have guys crashing into each other."

Trump has also claimed that the rule changes have made football "sissy" when venting his frustration on Truth Social. The definition for "sissy" is: "A boy or man who displays effeminate traits, is perceived as lacking in courage or strength, or engages in activities stereotypically considered feminine."

In another criticism of the rule, Trump wrote: "The NFL has to get rid of that ridiculous looking new Kickoff Rule. It’s at least as dangerous as the ‘normal’ kickoff, and looks like hell.
"The ball is moving, and the players are not, the exact opposite of what football is all about. ‘Sissy’ football is bad for America."
While the new rule remains a topic of debate, statistics show a significant increase in returns, a reduction in injuries, and the average return length has increased by 4.5 yards. However, the new rules have led to an increase in penalties.
