The hits keep on coming for the Sacramento Kings.

[ESPN’s Shams Charania reports](https://x.com/shamscharania/status/1991631897634697392?s=46&t=bJRGqD8GMKtbAg5yEd81iA) that Domantas Sabonis has suffered a partially torn meniscus in his left knee and will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks.  Sabonis has been an ironman in his first three seasons with the Kings but has already suffered multiple injuries this season, missing time with a hamstring strain and rib injury.  The Kings are currently 1-3 in games Sabonis has missed, but it’s been clear he hasn’t been playing at 100% in the games he has been in.  Sabonis is currently averaging 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 51% from the field, all lows for his time in a Kings uniform.

The Kings are currently sitting at 3-12 on the season entering tonight’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.  They are getting a reinforcement with Keegan Murray making season debut after suffering a thumb injury in the preseason, but even still they’re going to remain undersized for the foreseeable future.  Murray and Sabonis are the two players the Kings simply don’t have solid depth behind and they just so happen to be the two that have spent most of the season injured.  With Sabonis out, the Kings will likely rely on a platoon of Drew Eubanks, Precious Achiuwa and rookies Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell.

On the court, this is bad news for the Sacramento Kings, but off the court, it might be just what the team needs to start selling off assets and prepare for a full rebuild.  I’ll believe it when I see it though.  Still, there’s a non-zero percent chance that we might have seen the last of Domantas Sabonis in a Kings uniform, which would be a sad end for a player who started out his tenure here on such a high note.

Get well soon Domas.
