Why Keon Coleman isn't playing tonight for Bills as healthy scratch with discipline problem

Here we go again with Keon Coleman.

The Buffalo Bills are making Coleman a healthy scratch for a second consecutive game, this time for the Week 12 Thursday Night Football matchup with the Houston Texans.

It was a surprise when it emerged less than 24 hours before the Bills played the Buccaneers on Sunday that Coleman would be out.

This one felt a little more expected. There was no word throughout the week that Coleman would be back out there, and so apparently the lack of insight meant that Coleman wasn't going to be playing after all.

Why isn't Keon Coleman playing tonight?

Keon Coleman isn't playing Thursday night for the Bills against the Texans because Buffalo is trying to send him a message.

Coleman was late to a team meeting last Friday. It's the third time the Bills have benched him for a discipline issue, but Sunday was the first time it was for a full game.

Buffalo needs the No. 33 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to figure things out.

He was drafted to be a long-term pass catcher for Josh Allen.

But right now, Coleman can't get open and can't show up on time.

Coleman publicly took ownership of his tardiness after the Bills beat the Bucs on Sunday, which is a positive.

There's no reporting that indicates something went wrong this week, but the Bills may have opted to just stick with the status quo on the short week.

Gabe Davis has again been elevated from the practice squad and will play WR along with Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, Khalil Shakir and Tyrell Shavers.

When is Keon Coleman coming back?

There's no clear answer on this, but Coleman has one thing working in his favor ahead of Week 13.

Because the Bills play on Thursday night, they won't play their next game until a week from Sunday. It's essentially a 10-day window for Coleman to continue to prove himself worthy of being active again on gamedays.

But with a situation like this, there's a lot more known in-house than we know, so nothing is for sure.
