Why Keon Coleman is inactive for Buffalo Bills once again in Week 12

The Buffalo Bills have reportedly made their Week 12 decision on wide receiver Keon Coleman.

According to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, Coleman will be inactive once again for the Bills on Thursday night.

That means he's a healthy scratch for the second straight week, as Coleman was not on the team's injury report in the lead up to the game.

So, why is Coleman inactive yet again? Here's what we know.

Why Keon Coleman is inactive for Bills

Coleman was inactive for the Week 11 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the reason for that was a disciplinary issue, so we would assume his inactive status this week is once again punishment-related.

According to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg and Adam Schefter, Coleman was late for a team meeting last week, which led to his benching.

To his credit, Coleman has taken accountability for his mistake.

“Just got to be better,” Coleman said after Week 11. “Mistakes happen. Things happen. But again, got to be better.”

But this is now the third time Coleman has been disciplined by the team. He was also benched for the first series of the Week 5 game, and he was benched for an entire quarter during his rookie season for not being on time.

Knowing all that, it's understandable why Coleman's punishment is extending into another week after it's clear he didn't learn his lesson the first two times.

This is just the latest blow to Coleman's career. Not only has he had issues off the field with his lateness, but Coleman has been a massive disappointment on it.

After he was expected to take a big step forward in 2025 and stake his claim as the team's No. 1 wideout, Coleman has pretty much been stuck in neutral. One could argue he is even regressing, as he's averaging less receiving yards per contest in 2025 than he did in 2024.

Buffalo was able to get by just fine without Coleman in Week 11 after the Bills scored 44 points on the Bucs and Josh Allen threw for 317 yards.

Tyrell Shavers also stepped up big time, leading the team with four catches for 90 yards and one touchdown. Buffalo will need more out of him and Khalil Shakir, especially with Dalton Kincaid sidelined due to injury.
