Colts Insider Shuts Down Alarming Daniel Jones News

Daniel Jones has not only been a saving grace for the Indianapolis Colts this season, but he has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the entire NFL.

In fact, Jones was even tabbed as an MVP candidate earlier in year, although that talk has quieted down in recent weeks. That’s thanks much in part to the effort of Jones’ own teammate, running back Jonathan Taylor.

But on Thursday, some rather alarming Jones news occurred, as the quarterback surfaced on the Colts’ injury report due to a calf issue. Immediately, fans were naturally wondering if his status for Indianapolis’ Week 12 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs was in question, but ESPN’s Stephen Holder has quelled the noise for now.

“As of right now, I am not sensing any reason for alarm on Daniel Jones,” Holder wrote on X. “There is obviously a lot of scrutiny of injury reports right now, so teams gotta be fully transparent. Let's see what happens tomorrow.”

Jones has thrown for 2,659 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 69.9 percent of his passes and posting a 101.6 passer rating. He has also rushed for 143 yards and five scores.

The 28-year-old relies pretty heavily on his mobility, so if he is compromised in any way this weekend, it could spell big trouble for the Colts’ offense.

Jones was originally selected by the New York Giants with the sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons with the Giants and certainly showed some flashes, like in 2022 when he led New York to a shocking playoff appearance.

Overall, though, Jones was a significant disappointment in the Big Apple, leading to the Giants releasing him late in 2024. He then signed with the Minnesota Vikings for the remainder of the campaign before inking a one-year deal with Indianapolis in free agency.

Jones will definitely be a sought-after piece on the open market next March, but based on how well he has played for the Colts, it’s hard to imagine Indianapolis allowing him to walk.

Of course, that ultimately depends on Jones’ price tag, as well.

The Colts are 8-2 on the season and are two games ahead of the Jacksonville Jaguars for first place in the AFC South.
