One Former New England Patriots Super Bowl champion has landed his first head coaching job. The news comes as New England is preparing to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
Former running back and three-time Super Bowl champion James White has officially taken the helm as a head coach — marking a major new chapter in his football career. White, whose NFL legacy includes clutch Super Bowl moments, is transitioning into coaching and has accepted a head coaching position at Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois.

James White enjoyed an incredibly successful NFL career. Over eight seasons with the Patriots, he became one of Tom Brady’s most reliable weapons, especially in playoff runs. He famously caught 14 passes and scored three touchdowns in Super Bowl LI — including the game-winner in overtime — and also added a rushing score earlier in the game.
Now, White is bringing that big-game experience to the sidelines as the head coach at Benet Academy, a Class 5A high school in Illinois. He’ll remain with his current college coaching team, theUniversity of Illinois, through the end of the 2025 season before making the full transition.

The head coaching role represents a meaningful step up for White, who previously took on roles as an assistant coach: first at Illinois, where he coached running backs under Bret Bielema. He also served in personnel roles at Northern Illinois. Now, he’ll take full responsibility for leading an entire football program.
Illinois head coach Bret Bielema, who first recruited White years ago, had nothing but praise for the hire:
“Benet Academy is getting a proven leader that will make a positive impact in the lives of their young men.” (University of Illinois Athletics)
White echoed those sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. He said he’s “excited for the future” and looks forward to building relationships with his players and the Benet Academy community.
What His Career Means for Benet Academy
Winning pedigree: White brings a resume full of championships and elite-level experience.

High-level mentorship: His time in the NFL gives him unique credibility — especially to young athletes at Benet Academy who dream of playing at the next level.
Fans React: Excitement Meets Curiosity
Patriots fans, Badger fans (White played at Wisconsin), and high school football followers are all buzzing:
“Can’t wait to see ‘Sweet Feet’ mentor the next generation,” one commenter said.

Final Take: A Championship Winning Leader Moves Into Coaching
James White’s hiring as head coach at Benet Academy is far more than a new job — it’s a legacy move. The former Super Bowl hero is bringing elite-level experience, leadership, and championship mindset to a high school program ready to build.
If his NFL greatness is any indication, the next chapter of his career as a coach could be just as impactful.
