Referee Adrian Hill needed to be carted off the field after suffering a serious injury in the second half of the Bills' clash with the Texans on Thursday.
With Houston leading 20-16 in the third quarter, Hill was seen running across the end zone at NRG Stadium when he suddenly began limping.
There was no one else near Hill when he was hurt midway through a play. But he was in visible pain.
Texans trainers came on to the field and helped the official toward the sidelines. He was then carted away for treatment.
The injury saw umpire Roy Ellison move to the referee position. He was tasked with working the backfield by himself for the remainder of the game.
