The Los Angeles Lakers expected improvement from Bronny James going into the 2025-26 NBA season. The young guard was expected to become a rotational piece this year. However, that’s not how things have been going, and Bronny has been assigned to the Lakers’ G League affiliate again.
The 21-year-old dominated in the G League for the South Bay Lakers last season. His consistent performances have led to various opportunities in the NBA. Being assigned to that level again isn’t a good sign for the young star, though.

What gives this situation a tinge of humor is that Bronny is replacing his father on the G League roster. Before making his season debut against the Jazz, LeBron James trained with the SB Lakers. For all the jokes about the scenario, natural order has now been restored.

Bronny has played in 10 games for the Lakers so far. In those, he has played for just 11 minutes on average. Averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 assists in that many minutes isn’t going to cut it. James will have to prove his worth once again at the lower level to get another shot.

His G League stats are a different beast. In 11 games last season, he averaged 21. 9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Bronny can be quite effective on the basketball court; he just needs to showcase that once again.
