Liverpool target’s £60 million release clause set to drop

Premier League champions Liverpool will hope to get their season back on track when they host Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Reds have struggled in recent weeks – losing five of their last six league games – and have fallen to eighth place in the top flight table.

Arne Slot will be desperate to see his side returning to winning ways against Forest, having spent well in excess of £400 million on new signings over the summer.

The Merseyside outfit twice broke the British transfer record over the summer, first to sign Florian Wirtz and then to land Alexander Isak.

Now, though, it appears that the reigning Premier League champions are prepared to spent big once again to add another star to Slot’s struggling squad.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the release clause in the contract of Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo is set to drop next summer.

Romano claims that Liverpool are extremely interested in the Ghana international, who has started the new season in superb form.

Semenyo has so far scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 league games this term, but his impressive displays have attracted interest from the Reds.

The forward’s contract is said to include a release clause set at an initial £60 million, plus a potential £5 million in further add-ons.

That figure drops to a flat £50 million next summer, and Romano suggests that Bournemouth would prefer to keep hold of the player until then.

Semenyo, who can play in a number of attacking positions including as a winger on either flank or as a central forward, joined the Cherries from Bristol City back in 2023.

He recently made his 100th appearance for the south coast club, but it appears increasingly likely that his time at Bournemouth could come to an end next year.
