Simon Jordan makes Antoine Semenyo to Liverpool 'done deal' claim amid £65m release clause

Man City 3-0 Liverpool: Match Review

Liverpool are among the clubs who have been linked with Antonine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window.

Simon Jordan believes that a potential swoop for Antoine Semenyo may not be straightforward even if Liverpool meet the forward’s release clause.

Semenyo has started the 2025-26 campaign in rampant form, plundering six goals and three assists in 11 Premier League matches for AFC Bournemouth. The Ghana international was reportedly coveted by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window but instead signed a new contract at the Cherries.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan reckons that there may be various facets to a potential £65 million deal which could put Liverpool off signing Semenyo. The former Crystal Palace owner said: “It's interesting. Semenyo had trials at Palace when he was 15 and they didn't want him.

“He was there for eight weeks and didn't want him. Listen, because he has got a £65 million release clause, don't assume that is a straightforward done deal in terms of being able to meet it because there will be other caveats attached to it.

“There may well be payment terms that immediately drive the price of £65 million straight on the table. There may be other conditions of a top-six side that buys the player. It might not just be the £65 million and it might not be quite as appealing to Liverpool given the fact, and I've defended this against the onslaught of observations of how much they spent, but they did spend £400-500 million in the window just gone.”

Jordan suggested that Liverpool might have to assess their situation in terms of Premier League profit and sustainability rules about whether they could move for Semenyo in January. The Reds spent in the region on £450 million on their squad rebuild during the summer, although they offset much of that figure by sales of the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Jarell Quansah.

But the former Sunderland loanee is well regarded and Jordan revealed that ex-Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness is a big fan. Jordan added: “It might be difficult for them to go again in January not just from a cash point of view but a PSR point of view. I've liked this player for two or three years and had chats with Graeme Souness, who lives down that neck of the woods and watches them regularly. He is some player.”
