Liverpool in support of three 'key proposals' ahead of significant Premier League vote on Friday - journalist

Liverpool representatives will attend what is being seen as a significant Premier League meeting on Friday to vote on new financial proposals.

The Reds have always been keen supporters of regulating the division and will get the chance to make their voices heard in London.

Football finance expert Adam Williams outlined the potential changes to Rousing The Kop this week, with the main focus being on two items: squad cost rules and top-to-bottom anchoring.

As per The Athletic, the proposals could lead to ‘significant reform’ within the Premier League if waved through, as clubs look to move on from the current profit and sustainability landscape.

Friday’s vote is reportedly being seen as a ‘big moment’, one in which clubs can alter their spending possibilities and bring about a potential financially fairer future.

And according to journalist James Pearce, Liverpool owners FSG have already decided which side of the fence they’ll sit.

Liverpool owners in favour of Premier League changes

FSG have attempted to shake up the Premier League in the past. Who can forget their ill-fated ‘Project Big Picture’ back in 2020.

Since then, the Americans have often led the call for change and reform in order to keep other clubs within the financial rules.

And as Pearce explained on X, FSG will continue to bang that drum and will come out in support of the new Premier League changes.

“Big Premier League meeting tomorrow. Liverpool understood to be supportive of three key proposals,” said the journalist.

“1) Top to bottom anchoring (TBA). 2) Squad cost rule (SCR). 3) Sustainability and systemic resilience (SSR).”

As per The Athletic, the vote being secured ‘might change everything, and it might change nothing at all.’ Either way, Liverpool’s position is clear.

Financial regulations will always benefit Liverpool

Given the way FSG run Liverpool – in a consistently sustainable manner – these kinds of regulations being put in place always feels likely to help the Reds.

As one of the best run clubs in all of Europe, but also one of the most successful, Liverpool have the best of both worlds.

The new squad cost rules will reportedly allow clubs to now spend up to 85% of revenue on player costs. That will mean Liverpool have a little more wiggle-room than they do now.

Top-to-bottom anchoring could potentially limit them in some ways, but with the rest of the league playing by the same rules, the relative impact will reportedly be minimal, if anything at all.

SSR is reportedly aimed at securing medium and long-term good practice by clubs, something Liverpool and FSG need no help at all with. It is no surprise to hear the Reds are in favour of the Premier League trying something different, now we wait to see what their peers will decide.
