Manchester United fans have been handed a boost by the Premier League's latest round of fixture changes. After an outcry from match-going supporters following the release of the December schedule, league officials seem to have taken their concerns on board. Ruben Amorim's side won't play a single game on a Saturday between now and Christmas. Only two of their next eight matches will be played on a weekend, both of which are away fixtures.
But United fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the next Manchester derby has been kept on a weekend. It'll have been nearly three months since they last saw a Saturday fixture at Old Trafford by the time the derby rolls around. United chief executive Omar Berrada had a word with Premier League boss Richard Masters about the club's concerns. The derby is one of 19 matches that have been rescheduled between mid-January and early February.
United will be seeking revenge against City, who thrashed them 3-0 in the previous encounter, at 12.30pm on Saturday, January 17. While matches in the Saturday 12.30pm slot are typically broadcast live on TNT Sports, it'll be Sky Sports airing the derby this time around.
Instead, TNT will be showing Arsenal's journey to Nottingham Forest at 5.30pm on the same day. On Sunday, January 18, Sky will broadcast both matches. At 2pm, Wolves host Newcastle before Everton travel to Aston Villa at 4.30pm.
And at 8pm on Monday, January 19, it's a south coast showdown between Brighton and Bournemouth live on Sky. TNT will reclaim their 12.30pm slot on Saturday, January 24 when West Ham welcome Sunderland. Sky's game at 5.30pm is Bournemouth vs Liverpool.
There's more action on Sunday, January, 25 with two 2pm kick-offs: Brentford against Forest and Newcastle against Villa. United's journey to Arsenal will also be shown on Sky at 4.30pm, as will Everton's match at home to Leeds on Monday, January 26 at 8pm.
Finally, there'll be no 12.30pm match on Saturday, January 31. Instead, TV coverage will commence on Sky with the match between Chelsea and West Ham at 5.30pm before Liverpool host Newcastle at 8pm on TNT. Football fans are in for a treat on Sunday, February 1. Aston Villa vs Brentford, Man United vs Fulham and Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace all kick off at 2pm on Sky.
Their coverage continues at 4.30pm, as Tottenham face City in north London. Then on Monday, February 2, Sunderland host Burnley to conclude matchweek 24.
