Eddie Howe confirms two players are ‘very close’ to returning vs Manchester City

Eddie Howe is hoping to welcome Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento back to his Newcastle United squad against Manchester City on Saturday.

The former missed Newcastle United’s defeat to Brentford with a hip problem, while the latter has been absent since late September due to a knee injury.

But Anthony Gordon has trained ahead of facing Manchester City, and the same goes for Tino Livramento.

Prediction for Newcastle vs Man City?

They are both in contention to return for Newcastle’s game against Manchester City, with Eddie Howe providing updates on the two England internationals.

“Anthony Gordon is very close,” he said.

“He’s worked well during the break and he’s touch and go for the game. We’ll make a very late decision.”

On Livramento, Howe said: “He’s very close. He’s trained this international break, which has been great to see. He’s such an important player for us. Great to have him back training with the group. He’s shown his qualities.

Newcastle United will not rush Tino Livramento back

While Anthony Gordon should start against Manchester City if he is fit, it is a different story with Livramento.

Given the serious nature of his knee injury, Newcastle United must be careful when it comes to welcoming him back into the fold.

When he was stretchered off against Arsenal, there were fears that his season was over. Thankfully that was not the case, with the 23-year-old missing nine games so far.

He could now return on Saturday against Manchester City, but that will surely only be as a substitute if he is passed fit.

Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI to face Man City sees Kieran Trippier start at right-back, with the 35-year-old expected to retain his place in the starting lineup.
