Chelsea will be without Cole Palmer for two hugely-important games next week after the midfielder suffered a fresh injury

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer will miss the club’s next three games after sustaining a toe injury following an accident at home.

The 23-year-old has been one of the club’s most important players over the last 18 months, as he starred in the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.

However, this season he has been plagued by injury with a persistent groin problem limiting him to just three Premier League appearances and one outing in the Champions League.

He had hoped to be closing in on a return to action following the international break but Daily Mail football reporter Kieran Gill has revealed a fresh injury blow for the midfielder.

Palmer has scored 45 goals and provided 29 assists in 101 appearances for Chelsea and has been a key figure in their progress under Enzo Maresca. The Italian will likely be able to manage without Palmer when Chelsea face Burnley at 12.30pm on Saturday.

However, Maresca would ideally liked to have got Palmer back in the squad for next week’s huge games with Barcelona and Arsenal.

In the Champions League, Chelsea have won two of their four games and sit 12th in the 36-team standings with seven points. The top eight qualify and Barcelona is one of their toughest remaining games with the La Liga giants coming to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

London rivals Arsenal visit in the Premier League a week on Sunday. The Blues are third in the Premier League after 11 games and sit six points behind Arsenal ahead of the weekend. A win against the Gunners has the potential to put the Blues right in the title picture.
