The football world moves quickly and rarely does a player’s trajectory shift so dramatically in such a short timeframe.
When Elliot Anderson departed Newcastle United last summer, many saw it as a young prospect seeking regular first-team football.
What has unfolded since tells a different story—one of a meteoric rise that has captivated England’s coaching staff and attracted the attention of Europe’s elite clubs.
Since joining Forest in the summer of 2024, Anderson has established himself as one of the most promising midfielders in English football.
His performances have been so impressive that England manager Thomas Tuchel has made him a cornerstone of his midfield setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Anderson has started five of England’s last six games, showcasing the kind of consistency and quality that suggests he will be a regular fixture in his country’s plans for next summer’s tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
And it seems Liverpool have taken notice, at least according to the Times.
Paul Hirst and Matt Lawton have reported that Manchester United alongside Liverpool and Newcastle United (who would be resigning the midfielder) are keen on Elliott:
“Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Elliot Anderson before a potential summer move for the £100million-rated Nottingham Forest midfielder.”
“Newcastle, who were forced to sell Anderson to avoid a points deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules, are interested in re-signing the player.”
“He has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, although they spent big on their midfield this summer, but United are tracking him too and have added him to a shortlist of potential recruits for the next campaign.”
Any move for Elliott by the interested parties has been mooted for the summer window, although it’s hard to see the Reds agreeing to a £100 million for the Forest midfielder.
